May 07 Greece: May 01 -How many weeks has it been now??? I've lost count - they are all mingling into one nowadays.
The Dutch went home, the Greeks have stayed for a second week, and an Italian arrived. Oh not to mention the 2 English who popped over, before they caught their ferry to Tilos. Went to a nice restaurant in the Old Town - Mandolin - I recomend this place - the food it 'top class'. The Germans arrive on May 9th - woopie. And the Brits (official tourists) the week after. Things will get busy from then, so it will be a case of putting my blogs on here every couple of weeks or so.
Eurovision Semi-Final tonight; I hadn't realised just how serious the Greeks take the contest. Its been on most TV stations, and they are hopeing for a Cypriot win.
May 12th, 2007 - The employment at Belle Helene has ended. The owner of the bar did the nastiest trick anyone could ever do, and not pay any wages. And informed me that he was in financial trouble, and wouldn't be able to pay me. The job ends now - and it is time to start hunting for new work. If all fails, then it will be back to the UK. April 02 Greece: April 01 - April 30Happy Easter to you all.
Well who could believe it has been 3 weeks already. It feels more like 3 days. The first part of week 3 was bad and testing. But we mandaged to pull through it. Went to Filerimos yesterday to see the Acropolis of Ialyssos (A massive Cross on top of a mountain). The sight was out of this world. Breath taking. Got some outstanding pictures too. Will publish them on here for you all to see.
Week 4 - and things went a little crazy - Stuart started to act like a little shit - but boys will be boys. He got sacked from the Belle Helene. So I've been left to run the whole bar on my own. I can cope though!!! Serbian guests arrived for one week. How much fun they were. One of them is doing a write up on the island of Rhodes, and asked me if I would like to appear in it. OK the write up is only for Serbian people - but hey - at least I'll be a mini-celebrity in Serbia. Here is to week 5 then! Anyway - WEEK 5. The weather is hot, and more guests have arrived. This time its the Dutch! Welkommen Nederlands!
The Serbs have gone - oh well. I was invited to a Greek wedding on the 19th April - how cool they are too. I thought British wedding parties were great - but the Greeks top it in a BIG way. They are such a laugh. The fellas dance with each other, while we women sit and chat. Then the women dance, while the guys sit and chat. Traditional Greek music is played, and plenty of booze to get drunk 3 times over. Let's say I had the worst hangover in the history of my life - but it was worth it.
Been informed that for a couple of days next week - I will be left in charge of the hotel while the oweners go to attend another wedding party in Athens - how cool! I've gone from holiday maker; to barman; to senior barman; to temp hotel manager in the space of 6 months. Talk about promotion. I got to meet one of the tour reps this week - a guy who works for Libra (I won't mention his name on here - the arrogant bastard!). I will have to show him over the next couple of months who's the boss of the pool bar.
March 27 Greece: March 19 - March 31Γιεασας απο Ροδος, Ελλαδα.
Hi everyone. I have landed, well I been here a week now. The weather is OK - as you can see on the weather report on fromt page. So far in my first week, i have been busy setting up the bar ready for re-opening on April 1st.
Everything is almost complete now, only the pool to clean, and re-fill. Been out and about in Trianda, Ialyssos, and Ixia, as well as the City (Rhodes Town).
Well its been 2 weeks since I arrived in Rhodes. The weather has been beautiful, only rained on March 31st, and windy on April 1st. The first guests arrived today (April 2nd), so its a case of "all hands on deck".
My friend Stuart, is having loads of fun, meeting new people in the area, and liking the word 'YAMMAS' (which is Cheers in Greek). Word of advice to anyone coming to Greece - avoid the word YAMMAS, as you end up with a hangover from hell!!!!
We moved into our new appartment last week (Pighos) quite an unusual name, but what the heck. We had no electricity on our first night, then no water on the second day. Now we have only just had the hot water switched on (its taken them a week). When they say "5 minutes" over here, they mean 5 days.
Anyway, keep your eyes on this space next week, for part 3 of this 29 part epic-adventure of my new life in Rhodes. |
